Brett is the founder and head instructor of Eight Gates Internal Arts and is a full time internal arts teacher and Chinese medicine practitioner.
Introduced to meditation twenty years ago, he later discovered qigong and Daoism, and then Buddhism. His study of Tai Chi and related practices began in 2001 under the late J. Llewellyn, a long term student of Yang style Taichi, and later a disicple of Chen Xiaowang in Chen style Taichi. During the last twenty years he has explored both Daoist and Buddhist methods of meditation, cultivation, and healing. Spending time in Japan, Taiwan, China, Canada, the U.S. as well as countries closer to home such as Finland and France.
A student, and friend of the Late Dr S. Carlson for many years, learning among other studies, meditation, neigong, medical qigong, and Daoist qigong. Dr Carlson encouraged him to begin teaching, and continues to be an influence. In 2007 he became a student of Dr M. Brewer a senior student of B. K. Frantzis. Dr Brewer opened the door for Daoist studies and cultivation, and has been an invaluable guide. From 2010 he began to study the internal cultivation (daoyin) and medicine of the Yin style Bagua tradition, and Chinese classics with Dr A. Nugent-Head. He is also an ongoing student of Prof S.FS Chin in his Hakka family art of Zhong Xin Dao/I Liq Chuan, an external-internal martial art with both Daoist and Buddhist cultivation influences.
He is a Registered Instructor with the Tai Chi Union of Great Britain.
